Fernando Alonso has incurred a €100 fine by the FIA at the F1 Mexico City Grand Prix.
The driver of Aston Martin was sanctioned for exceeding the speed limit in the pit lane.
He surpassed the 80km/h speed restriction by 0.1 km/h.
Alonso’s penalty – roughly equivalent to £87 – is not expected to significantly impact his financial status.
FIA penalties garnered attention earlier this month in Texas when modifications were made to the International Sporting Code, granting stewards the authority to escalate the maximum fines imposed on a driver.
F1 drivers are now susceptible to fines reaching up to €1 million, a number that received criticism from various individuals in the paddock, including Toto Wolff, who advocated for a “reality check,” asserting that certain drivers might find such a sum unaffordable.
However, Fernando Alonso’s fine, attributed to a relatively minor infraction, stands distinctly at the lower end of the fine spectrum.
Earlier this season in Austria, Lewis Hamilton received a comparable €100 penalty for likewise surpassing the speed limit in the pit lane.
