Red Bull‘s Sergio Perez faced a devastating home Mexican Grand Prix ordeal on Sunday when he collided with Ferrari’s pole-sitter Charles Leclerc at the initial corner, resulting in his retirement in the pits.
Perez attempted to overtake the Ferrari on the outside, but their wheels clashed, causing the Red Bull to be thrust into the air and onto the run-off, sustaining sidepod damage, while Leclerc carried on.
The Mexican managed to return his car to the pits and remained inside for an extended period before exiting, expressing his frustration by striking the steering wheel.
Despite the unfortunate event, Sergio Perez will maintain his second position in the championship standings, having entered the race with a 39-point lead over Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton.
